Welcome Message from Mr. Wilde

Welcome to Napoleon Middle School’s official web page.  I am Principal Ryan Wilde.  I have been principal of the middle school since 2010.  I have had the pleasure of working for Napoleon Area Schools for almost fifteen years beginning in the summer of 1997.  During the course of my career with our schools, I have served as a social studies teacher, dean of students, and the assistant principal at the high school before taking on a new role as middle school principal.  While I was at the high school, I participated in the supervision of some of the extra-curricular programming available to students, such as Hi-Y, football, and community service.  I take great pride in the length of tenure I have served the families, staff, and students in the district.

Prior to my arrival to Napoleon Area Schools I worked as a special education teacher for two years, one with the Wood County Educational Service Center and the other with Springfield Local Schools.  When I speak of my experience in private sector before entering the field of education, individuals are often surprised to discover I was employed for three years by a contractual security firm in Chicago running a hospital public safety department, as well as a member of the corporation’s executive security detail.  All of these life experiences help me in the capacity of being a member of the district’s administrative team working to better the schools for children.

Napoleon Middle School educates children in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.  NMS has been rated “Excellent” by the Ohio Department of Education the last four consecutive years.  The school currently has 425+ students being served by some 32 certified staff members.  Our students receive traditional studies in reading, language arts, math, science, social studies; as well as instruction in health, physical education, and art.  Students can elect to participate in computer, band, and choir courses.  We offer high school credit for 8th grade students in pre-algebra and algebra.  The school is able to provide a variety of services to students.  We offer many special education services, intervention, and enrichment opportunities to students which may include web based technologies like Study Island.  Our staff includes a school psychologist, guidance counselor, and dean of students who work tirelessly to help students transition into civically minded, well-rounded adolescents.

We offer extra-curricular organizations for students, such as drama, outdoor education planning committee, school newspaper, power of the pen, quiz team, and student council.  Our 7th and 8th grade boys and girls can participate in a variety of school sponsored athletics which include cross country, cheerleading, football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, and track.  Napoleon Middle School is a proud member of the Northern Lakes League.  We compete against other schools from Anthony Wayne, Bowling Green, Maumee, Perrysburg, Springfield, and Sylvania.  All extra-curricular activities are supervised by staff members who care deeply about children.  We pride ourselves in educating children sportsmanship and healthy competition.

We are part of a large middle school and elementary school complex, located in the heart of the historic city.  Our building once served as Napoleon’s primary school dating back to the early 1900s.  The building’s historical architecture serves as a reminder to all citizens the strong tradition of community which we hold dear from one generation to the next generation.

Our students excel in classroom and on the field of play with the assistance of parents and staff.  We often speak of the “Tradition of Excellence” and highlight our “Wildcat Pride” as a learning community.  We have passionate parents, strong students, and a caring staff.  From the time a child is greeted at the bus in the morning to the moment he or she walks into a classroom or cafeteria, our staff does its very best to serve each student.  When we wear “Blue & White”, it displays our unity.

If you have any questions about our school, or about how to open-enroll to the Napoleon Area Schools District, please feel free to send me an email message at ryan.wilde@napoleonareaschools.org,or call me at 419-592-6991.  You may also contact me by sending a note to my attention to Napoleon Middle School, 303 West Main Street, Napoleon, OH 43545.  I am more than willing to assist.
